Working on Surface Design

Today I've been working on soy wax surface design, small batch dyeing and dyeing cotton t-shirts and soxs. Mixed up the dyes yesterday. That is easy but can take time. Looking forward to finishing the soy wax pieces and washing out the dyed pieces tomorrow. My favorite part!
The t-shirts and soxs are for my 3 year old granddaughter and her friends.

Working in the Studio

After many months of setting up the studio, website, classes (more to come) I am finally feeling ok about working in the space. Yeah!! I like to work on a few projects at once. Last night I worked on a queen size traditional quilt. First I had to oil up the machine and be sure the stitching was at the correct tension. I hadn't used it since it came over on the truck. It took a minute but the Juki was up and running very quickly. I love that machine. It only does a straight stitch but that is all you need to quilt and do free motion stitching. This is a pic of some wet felted children's slippers and felted fabric done in the last couple years.

Friday

At first I didn't think I would make it to the studio and I didn't until about 6:30pm. I have been noticing and tonight was the same, that Friday evening is a great time to be at The Tru-Fit Trouser building. Very quiet; almost nobody in the whole building. Jim and I talked about this (after I got home) and it seems Fridays could be a good night for Instinctive Art concerts. I had a few hours to spend working on art!! I been using many surface design methods on fabric. Now I want to put some of those together to create some pieces.
